Master: Tatsuo Sato
[Personality] Born on February 24, 1917, the eldest son of Shozaburo Watanabe, a farmer in the town of Funabiki-cho, Fukushima Prefecture. From 1950, he started making new type kokeshi dolls in Shiraishi, but in 1951, he studied under Tatsuo Sato of the Yajiro lineage and learned the techniques of kijiji. He became famous as a creative kokeshi doll maker. He has received numerous awards, including the Prime Minister's Prize at the All Japan Kokeshi Doll Contest.
He also occasionally made traditional molds, and in the 1960s, he made Yajiro-style kokeshi to some extent.
