Ainu kokeshi Dolls Traditional Couple dolls Set "Pirika Kokeshi"
"Pirika" means beautiful in Ainu language.
The Ainu are the native people of Hokkaido, which is located on the northernmost island of Japan.
The Ainu controlled the area for centuries, but the Japanese government annexed it and named it "Hokkaido" about 150 years ago.
These small dolls are the Ainu's traditional design.
These kokeshi dolls can be used not only for appreciation but also for fortune-telling. A paper with Japanese instructions on how to fortune-telling is included.
