Shikki has been loved by people for thousands of years.
And even today people pay a big amount of money for these beautiful lacquerwares.
Especially Kishu-shikki is one of the most famous lacquerware production areas, so the reputation and value are relatively high.
You can see a logo of Chrysanthemum blossom in the middle of the dish.
It represents that these plates were made for the Japanese imperial family or the artist wanted to show his respect for the member of the imperial family.
Since the plates were made of bakelite and lacquered with Urushi, these dished can be this affordable.
Thanks to today's technology, they can be more durable than wood.
